Janus in the Doorway

New Year's Eve Sentinel

I'm happy to see the sun go down on the final day of 2012. I'm exhausted. It's my own doing, since  I insist on reading last year's journals to review the past 12 moons. It's the prerequisite for the next step, which is to build a fire. I gather my drum, a pen and paper, and write down those things, fresh in my mind from my inky pages, that I don't want to take with me into 2013. What I want to burn, baby, burn. Then I drum the energy back. By then Teak has joined me and thinks it's time to play stick so laughter abounds. Hobo could care less. He claims to have the correct idea and sticks to lounge-mode.

It's a tricky time of year, as two-faced Janus looks forward and backwards. I'm in major dance deficit following my year in Montana, so despite the fact that we have six inches of fresh powder I'm packing my friend Emilie into the truck and we're going to hit the lights fantastic. I'm intent on leaving twenty-twelve with a beat. As Alice Walker reminds, "Hard Times require furious dancing." We've chosen a fun band and a celebration that brings down the ball New York City time, which is 10:00 here. I just might make it that late!

We will attend the Turtle Dance at the Taos Pueblo tomorrow morning. I will use their drumbeats and steps with intention; to enter the coldest, darkest time of the year and fill my cup with hope. Blessings to you. May spirit infuse our souls. May we re-member our stories and reach for our higher selves; to reclaim with new vigor why we are here on this planetary home called Gaia.
