Indie Pub -- Because You Can

Living on the Spine Bookcover

Pinch me! Living on the Spine: A Woman's Life in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, my account of  five years of solo life at the edge of wilderness, will soon be available via e-book and print. LOS originally came out 1997 from Papier-Mache Press in California. A second printing was done by Westcliffe Publishers (EarthTales Press) in 2001. The last few years it has languished, sold used on Amazon, and the final boxes of books were given me by Westcliffe.

Fast forward to this year and my latest book, Drive Me Wild: A Western Odyssey. I indie published this book in August, and along with its sales, sales are also picking up for LOS. I asked the publisher if they would release LOS as an e-book and they declined. They returned the rights to me and voila, it has new life.  I'm publishing it. I will have copies to sell at my events, it will be available on Kindle and all other e-book platforms, it will be distributed by major distributors and available from your favorite local bookstore. All for around a $250 investment.

Why Indie Publish? You own your rights to your intellectual property. You price your own books. It is fast... you don't have to wait for months or over a year to have your book in print, which accelerates cash flow, and as you can see in this example, there is no obsolescence!

On Saturday, February 9th, I will conduct my class, "Going Indie: An Introduction to Self-Publishing," at the Taos Library. It's $25. Former participants rave that it's best two hours they could have spent. It's a new world out there with the printed word. Come and join the fun!
